The 17-year-old man who was found shot dead behind a house in Hyde Park on October 3 has been identified as Koby Coats.
On the night of the shooting, crews from the Jacksonville Fire Rescue headed to a house on Red Robin Drive to conduct a health examination of a man who had been reported seeing him lying on the ground.
The coats were found dead, and his family believes his body lies behind the house. They are questioning the audience for information.
Coates’ online obituary says that he had a big heart and loved his family more than anything else, and that people would remember him for his smile, big brown eyes, and people’s laughter.
“This is too small. Life hasn’t even tested,” said AJ Jordan, outreach coordinator for the MAD DADS anti-violence group, which helps the family seek justice.
Jordan said the police didn’t have any other information for them, which is why it’s so important for the community to come forward now.
“We get a lot of phone calls and talk to families to try to encourage them, so we just need the community to talk so that these families don’t have to cry a lot at night,” Jordan said. “I cry with them because it’s sad to hear that. Especially that mom, she doesn’t know what to do. She said she can’t rest, she can’t sleep, she walks all night. And we don’t.” We don’t want that. Jacksonville, go ahead and help these families. “
The house where Coates was found is located at the south end of Hyde Park near Sweetwater.
The police have not released any suspicious information.
