The latest news about the effects of the Corona virus outbreak on sports around the world:
Colombian cyclist Fernando Gaviria tested positive for the Coronavirus and was withdrawn from Giro d’Italia.
Gaviria and AG2R team member La Mondiale were the only positive out of 492 tests taken on Sunday and Monday.
The UAE team in Gaviria says the passenger was “isolated immediately after the test result and feels fine and completely asymptomatic”.
The team notes that Gaviria also had COVID-19 in March.
Gaviria won five stages at Giro during his career.
Competitors in general, Simon Yates and Stephen Cruisvik, had already withdrawn from the race after having tested positive. Australian star Michael Matthews has also withdrawn. Michelton-Scott and Jumbo-Visma withdrew their teams entirely last week after a series of positive results from their first rest day.
