Witnesses tell First Coast News that 20 bullets have been heard in the area.
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A man was killed after Sheriff Jacksonville’s office said he was found shot in a car in Northside on Saturday morning.
The organization said that officers found a car crash consisting of two vehicles off Dunn Street after 5:15 in the morning, and a man was found wounded by a bullet inside one of the vehicles and was later declared dead in hospital.
“It’s shocking. It’s insane.” “Things like that don’t usually happen on a daily basis,” said Alexis Brinkley, who lives nearby.
Alexis Brinkley did not believe a murder had occurred in her neighborhood.
A sea of police cars, crime scene tape, evidence signs and anxious bystanders surrounded Den Avenue and Hearts Road early on Saturday morning.
“Patrol officers in the area heard what appeared to be gunshots at Block 10800 of Hearts Road.” Sgt. Harry Goldfin, of the Sheriff’s Jacksonville office, said, “There are many companies there.”
Goldfein said one of them shot a dark car several times, and it crashed into a white car. First Coast News spoke exclusively with the white SUV driver. He stated that he was on his way to work when he heard about 20 shots in the area of the Gold Rush Hotel, then the accident happened. He also said that the shooting continued after the incident.
“He was shot in the car, and at some point, he crashed. We don’t know what caused the crash, whether it was raining, whether it was losing control, or because of a gunshot,” said Goldfein.
“It’s usually a quiet area,” Brinkley said. “There is not much going on in the neighborhood. It is said to be surprising.”
