A Florida man who changed voter registration for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and access to those belonging to NBA icons Michael Jordan and LeBron James was arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Tuesday.
Anthony Stephen Guevara, 20, from Naples, was arrested at his home after FDLE agents filed a search warrant at his home on Tuesday.
Guevara was charged with unauthorized access to a computer and altering voter registration without consent. He was held in Collier County Jail on $ 5,000 bail.
The FDLE was notified after DeSantis noticed that his address had been changed in the voting registration system to a West Palm Beach property.
Of course, DeSantis doesn’t live in West Palm Beach.
The agents said they were able to confirm that Guevara was the suspect, and said that the voter registration for DeSantis was altered through a web browser, presumably on Guevara’s computer.
DeSantis was not Guevara’s only goal.
Agents believe he also gained access to voter registrations for Senator Rick Scott, former Florida governor, as well as NBA star James and former player Jordan, a six-time NBA champion.
No changes were made to their records.
“I am proud of the speedy and detailed work our agents have done in this case and I appreciate the hard work of the State Attorney’s Office Princess Fox and Jack Campbell,” said Rick Sweringen, FDLE Commissioner. “FDLE is committed to ensuring that the voting rights of Florida’s citizens are protected, and we will continue to work with our local, state and federal partners to ensure the security of our elections.”
